Yay! Imagine our excitement at hearing that The Miller of Mansfield had been shortlisted for one of the specialist awards at the Top 50 Gastropubs – Front of House Team of the Year. We were over the moon!
Top 50 Gastropubs
The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs are annual awards run by trade publishers The Morning Advertiser. With the rise of the gastropub concept, chefs becoming TV celebrities and personalities, and the nation become food focused, these awards are now one of the most prestigious in the hospitality industry.
From our perspective, the fact that they’re judged by our restaurant peers as well as long standing industry experts and innovators, they command respect. Backed by a well known brand, they also capture the imagination of consumers and lifestyle media too. All in, we were honoured to be considered.
The shortlist for the Front of House Team of the Year award comprised three restaurants from across the country. We were in the running alongside The Cross Keys in Epperstone and Suffolk’s Unruly Pig.
Being shortlisted is, alone, wonderful recognition for four years of hard graft and passion injected by Mary and Nick to build a successful business in a fabulous community.
Our front of house team at The Miller of Mansfield is a loyal core including Matt, Amy, Nick, Craig and Elizabeth working alongside Mary to run the bar, restaurant and hotel. They recognise our regulars, warmly welcome new faces and serve all equally with attention and expertise around our food and drink offerings. The Top 50 Gastropubs recognition is a huge nod to their hardwork and loyalty to The Miller and we thank them for that. Long may it continue.
Onwards and upwards
Gutted will never quite suffice in explaining how Mary and Nick felt at not bringing the gong back with them to their restaurant in Goring. But equally, it isn’t the be all and end all. The certificate of their shortlisting sits proudly on the wall alongside their other accolades (including Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year and Cateys Best Newcomer shortlist) and the experience of the event will be remembered for a long time to come.
For the rest of 2018 we’re focused on launching some new foodie initiatives, reintroducing our tasting nights and continuing to produce flavoured focused dishes to wow diners’ palates.
