We were lucky enough to take an Easter break this year and we had a yearning to visit France (the place Mary and Nick met). We decided to have a final destination in mind (Disneyland for the children) but with no idea where to head after we got off the Eurotunnel. Our first stop of destiny was Pont L’Eveque and Deauville, both gorgeous places that we would not hesitate to revisit. We then furthered our journey on to Belleme to meet with the official Twinning association. This part of our journey was a must as the Twinning Town of Goring and we were not disappointed. We did our best to speak in French (using what we remembered) and between us we managed to have a lengthy conversation of the historical village (Ville Close-the wall that once surrounded the village where now only a porch entrance remains), the local community and the exciting future plans for the Belleme Twinning association to visit us this year. We also learned of Aristide Boucicaut, born in Belleme and opened the first French department store, Bon Marche.
It was a real pleasure to visit this lovely village, twinned with our very own Goring. We very much look forward to having them join us over this summer so we can show them around our lovely village too!
